Alessandra Gómez
Curator & Artistic Leader

Alessandra Gómez is an independent curator and writer based in New York. Her work explores the intersections of performance, visual art, and popular culture. For over a decade, she has developed innovative artistic programs and facilitated more than seventy-five commissions across disciplines including visual arts, dance, theater, performance art, and music. She is recognized for her expertise in conceiving, leading, and commissioning complex, large-scale projects in any medium, spanning both institutional and commercial contexts.
She is currently the consultant Public Art Curator at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and Head Art Curator at the Wythe Hotel. She curates performances at Offerings, a performance series held at St. Mary the Virgin Church in the heart of Times Square. She has forthcoming artistic projects in 2026-2028 to be announced.

Previously, she was a curator for a revived art amusement park Luna Luna, created in 1987 by André Heller. The original park featured rides and attractions by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein, Sonia Delaunay, Keith Haring and more. She was part of the core curatorial team for Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy, currently on a multi-city tour.

From 2018 to 2023, she was a part of the Shed’s founding curatorial team. She organized acclaimed shows by Shayne Oliver & Anonymous Club and Maxwell Alexandre and developed commissions for the Open Call program. She has curated independently for Nike, Queens Museum, Columbia University, Center for Performance Research (CPR), Knockdown Center, and Ambient Church, among others. In 2024, Nike invited her to curate an exhibition about the intersection of style and sport with nine new commissions from prominent creatives, including Jane Wade, Conner Ives, L’Enchanteur, and more.

She has served on numerous visual and performing art grant panels and published writing for online magazines and artist catalogues. Her recent book on Maxwell Alexandre’s work features contributions from scholar Tina Campt and Hans Ulrich Obrist. She holds an MA from Columbia University and dual degree from School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
