Alessandra Gómez is an independent curator based in New York. Her work focuses on the intersections of performance, visual art, and popular culture. Over the past decade, she has developed artistic programs for various new organizations and facilitated over seventy-five commissions across disciplines, including visual arts, dance, theater, performance art, and music. She is recognized for her expertise in leading and commissioning large-scale, complex artistic projects in any medium.

Previously, she served as a curator for a revived art amusement park Luna Luna, created in 1987 by André Heller. The original park featured rides and attractions by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein, Sonia Delaunay, Keith Haring and more. She was part of the core curatorial team for Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy, currently on a multi-city tour.  She contributed to the early planning of new artist-designed rides, games, and attractions, and conducted original research and writing on the 1987 collection for the exhibition.

From 2018 to 2023, she was part of the Shed’s founding curatorial team. She organized acclaimed shows by designer Shayne Oliver & Anonymous Club and Brazilian artist Maxwell Alexandre and developed commissions for the Open Call program. She has served on numerous grant panels, as well as written for artist catalogues.
She has organized independent curatorial projects for Nike, Queens Museum, Columbia University’s Wallach Gallery, Center for Performance Research, Knockdown Center, and Ambient Church, among others. Nike recently invited her to curate an exhibition on the intersection of style and sport with nine new commissions from prominent creatives, including Jane Wade, Conner Ives, L’Enchanteur, Arial Robinson, Jiwon Rhie, ByLolita, and more.

Currently, she serves as a consultant curator at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and joined the curatorial collective for Offerings, a new performance series held at St. Mary’s Church in the heart of Times Square. The series supports emerging curators and artists by giving them a platform to share works-in-process in an informal setting. She is working on a number of independent curatorial projects.

Alessandra is committed to supporting artists and promoting interdisciplinary practices that intertwine visual arts, performance, and popular culture.  She holds degrees from Columbia University and School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
