Alessandra Gómez
Curator & Artistic Leader

Alessandra Gómez is a contemporary art curator, arts leader, and writer based in New York. Her curatorial approach centers on interdisciplinary collaboration and the commissioning of new work that challenges conventional boundaries between performance, visual art, and public space. For over a decade, she has conceived and led ambitious artistic programs for cultural organizations, commissioning and stewarding more than a hundred works across visual art, dance, theater, and music in galleries, theaters, museums, and unconventional outdoor spaces. She leads complex, large-scale projects from concept to completion, pairing a clear artistic vision with careful execution. Across institutional and commercial contexts, she situates artwork in relation to its audience and site.

She is currently the consultant Public Art Curator at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and Head Art Curator at the Wythe Hotel, where she directs the art programming and acquisitions. She curates ongoing performances at Offerings, a performance series presented at St. Mary the Virgin Church in the heart of Times Square. She is a Curator for Sugar Sugar!, a large-scale outdoor summer performance series in Domino Square in June. She is developing several major, large-scale artistic projects as a guest curator, slated for realization between 2026 and 2028, to be announced.

From 2023-2024, she was a Curator for a revived art amusement park Luna Luna, created in 1987 by André Heller. The original park featured rides and attractions by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein, Sonia Delaunay, Keith Haring and more. She was part of the core curatorial team for Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy. From 2018 to 2023, she was a part of the Shed’s founding curatorial team, where she organized acclaimed shows by Shayne Oliver & Anonymous Club and Maxwell Alexandre and developed commissions for the Open Call program. She has worked with artists including Trajal Harrell, Emilie Gossiaux, Shayne Oliver, Alex Tatarsky, Maxwell Alexandre, Morgan Bassichis, Lynn Hershman Leeson, and many others.

She has independent curated projects for Sugar Sugar! (2026), Pratt (2026), Nike (2024), Columbia University (2019), the Center for Performance Research (2024, 2017-18), Knockdown Center (2018), Queens Museum (2017), and Ambient Church (2017-18), and has advised for Meow Wolf (2025).

In addition to her curatorial work, Gómez regularly serves on visual and performing arts grant panels and contributes writing to exhibition catalogues, artist publications, and online magazines including Topical Cream, Document Journal and more. She authored a book on Maxwell Alexandre with contributions from Tina Campt and Hans Ulrich Obrist. She holds an MA from Columbia University and BFFAH (dual degree) from School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
